stuck in sabalito

uh oh! at approximately 2 pm this afternoon, we had a hella rainstorm up here complete with huge lightning and thunder. it was pouring hard about the time robin and i got back from tilaran. at 3pm, there was a really good lightning crack right overhead and the power and phones went out. typical. later i found out that was also about the time our local river washed out the road. as in "the road is gone!" all this mountain rain water really crashes through the terrain like crazy! there's water shooting out of the sides of the mountains everywhere. it's like the grand canyon where the road used to be! nobody is getting through....this is the only real road connection from arenal and sabalito to tilaran, so i guess WE will be homeschooling tomorrow (and maybe next week, too). they are gonna have to build a bridge for this gap. thankfully it looks like nobody was hurt (no cars down there thank god). but robin's buddy steven WADED neck deep in the dark through the rushing water to get home.

wish i had thought to gas up the car and maybe buy some beer! i had NO idea this crevice was so deep! i just drive over it like twice a day looking forward, not down. it's about 30 feet down from the asphalt to the water. if you look close enough you can see that the asphalt is only about 6 inches thick. it's been a hard day for all those people stranded on the wrong side of the gap...luckily we are safe and cozy at home. and the power is back on. yay.
